Job Description North Suffolk Community Services (NSCS) is seeking a person who is well-grounded in recovery. Because of their life experience with mental health recovery, the Community Engagement Specialist (CES) provides expertise that clinical training cannot replicate. This position is designated for a person who identifies as having lived experience of mental health recovery, resilience and healing as a means to inspire hope, optimism and the courage to act. CES’’s receive supervision from a Recovery Manager and are provided one on one support, psycho-educational groups and additional resources for NSCS clients. The Engagement Specialist engages in non-directive and supportive relationships that promote empowerment and self-learning.


This position is Full-Time Monday-Friday; 36 hours per week. Some nights and weekends required.

What you’ll do:

  • Support person served, based on their needs in recovery-oriented skills, activities of daily living, socialization, and community integration.
  • Provide consistent interventions to engage individuals in services and recovery, including in person and telehealth outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Assist the treatment team to develop an individual action plan or support the person served in developing a wellness plan.
  • Implement, teach, assist and/ or coach persons served with their individual action plan or recoverees who have developed their own wellness plan to review their goals and objectives on a consistent basis.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • This individual must have lived experience with mental health and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Skills:
    • Driver’s license preferred but not required to attend off-site functions.
