About the Role:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of all swimmers in and around the aquatics area. This requires the guard to prevent accidents, actively scan, and respond to incidents, accidents, and emergencies quickly and effectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
<ul>
<li>Be rescue ready. Wear rescue tube, bathing suit, guard shirt, whistle, and personal protective equipment at all times.</li>
<li>Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area. Actively scan your assigned zone every 10 seconds from bottom to top. </li>
<li>Respond to any situation/emergency within 10 seconds based on your training/certification and the emergency procedures established by the YMCA.</li>
<li>Choose your position based on glare, pool activity, swimmers’ abilities, and zone size. Be positioned so that you can best see all areas of your zone and respond to any distressed swimmer or emergency within 10 seconds. Guards may not be positioned next to each other.</li>
<li>Rotate your position regularly. Check your zone and the pool area for hazards or dangerous conditions before assuming responsibility of a zone or the pool.</li>
<li>Assist with ancillary duties, such as chemical testing, swim testing, cleaning, organizing the deck/equipment, checking first aid supplies, and other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director during down times when no one is in the pool. Avoid performing ancillary duties while actively scanning.</li>
<li>Know, understand and consistently enforce all rules and policies using the Q-1-2 enforcement method. Be firm, fair, and polite when explaining rules and policies to members. Swim test &amp; mark participants based on YMCA guidelines.</li>
<li>Follow all policies and procedures as established in the Aquatics Staff Manual.</li>
<li>Attend monthly in-service trainings. Attend other staff meetings as required.</li>
<li>Complete incident/accident reports following any incident/accident and submit to supervisor before the end of the shift. Notifies Aquatics Director of any issues.</li>
<li>Find coverage for any shifts you are unable to work. Communicate your coverage with the Aquatics Director. </li>
<li>Follow the pool schedule. Make sure the pool set up reflects the number of lanes available based on the current pool schedule.</li>

Job Title: Swim Instructor/Lifeguard Reports to: Deck Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum. Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.</li>
<li>Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.</li>
<li>Evaluates students progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students swim skills.</li>
<li>Acts as a GSS ambassador to ensure parental satisfaction.</li>
<li>Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.</li>
<li>Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.</li>
<li>Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.</li>
<li>Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.</li>
<li>Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.</li>
<li>Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.</li>
<li>Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.</li>
<li>Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.</li>

Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Paid training for those not certified is provided. Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate. Must be at least 15 years old to apply.

Essential Functions 
• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. 
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool. 
• Ensures program fidelity per level description and teaching guidelines. • Performs equipment checks &amp; inventory to ensure proper working condition and available as needed. 
• Delivers quality teaching of private and group swim lessons in group and individualized settings in accordance with YMCA instruction standards. 
• Identifies and celebrates the success of members and program participants. • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training. 
• All other duties assigned by management. Equipment and Software • Various pool area equipment and chemicals.
 • ADP for personal and operational timecard management.
• Microsoft Office 365 – Outlook, OneDrive, Excel Teams etc. Qualifications
• Must demonstrate swim lesson instruction skills in accordance with YMCA standards. 
• Current Lifeguard certification required. 
• Ability to communicate and get along with people of diverse backgrounds is required.
