Job Description
Plumber - Silver Maple
New Haven, Vermont | Full-Time
Build With Us
Silver Maple, Vermont's renowned design-and-build company, is growing — and we're looking for Full-Time Plumbers at every level to join our Mechanical Division. Whether you hold a Master's license, a Journeyman's license, or you've spent a few years in plumbing or another trade and want a real career, there's a seat for you here.
You'll work on a rare mix of residential, commercial, and aviation projects - alongside architects, designers, and project managers on systems that are anything but cookie-cutter.
Skills can be taught. Character can't. We're looking for good people who want to grow.
Why Silver Maple
Great work comes from great people who feel valued. We've built a culture that prioritizes both professional excellence and personal well-being — something genuinely rare in construction. Work-life balance here isn't a slogan; it's how we operate.
We also believe in building tradespeople, not just hiring them. If you're coming from another trade or early in your plumbing career, we'll put you next to licensed plumbers, get your hours logged, and help pay for the coursework that gets you licensed.
What You'll Do
The work grows with you. Depending on where you're starting from, that looks like:
- Hands-on installation: Install and repair water supply and distribution systems: piping, valves, fixtures, and outlets, working from blueprints, specs, and code.
- Service and troubleshooting: Perform repairs, replacements, testing, and diagnostics on plumbing and mechanical systems, and respond to service calls.
- Collaboration: Work with architects, designers, project managers, and lead carpenters so mechanical work lands on time and fits the finished space.
- Plan review (licensed roles): Review plumbing and mechanical plans for feasibility and advise on system design, materials, and code-compliant approaches.
- Mentorship (Master/Journeyman): Train and support newer team members, and serve as a technical resource across the division.
- Problem solving: Find creative solutions to the problems every residential mechanical project throws at you.
What You Bring
No plumbing license? Keep reading — we hire for aptitude and attitude, then train.
- Hands-on experience in a trade — plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, electrical, welding, auto, or similar
- Genuine interest in building a long-term career in the mechanical trades
- Comfort with hand and power tools, and a safety-first mindset (OSHA and company guidelines)
- Ability to read and work from drawings, and to picture how a system fits together in three dimensionsStrong communication skills and real attention to detail
- Reliability, punctuality, and a team-first attitude
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more with assistance, work in confined spaces and at heights, and work in varied conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- High school diploma or GED
A plus, not a requirement: A Vermont Journeyman or Master Plumbing License, 3–5 years in the trade, and a working knowledge of plumbing codes, permits, and inspections - these move you to the top of our range, not to the top of the pile.
Where This Goes
Plumbing is one of the few trades with a clear, licensed ladder — and we'll walk you up it. Apprentice hours logged under licensed plumbers, tuition reimbursement and professional development for your coursework, and pay that moves as your license and skills do. Several people on our team started somewhere else and finished their license here.
What We Offer
- $28–$48/hour, paid weekly, based on your skills, experience, and licensing
- 15 days paid time off plus 7 paid holidays
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Health savings account, life and disability, accident insurance, and an employee assistance program
- 401(k) with company matching
- Professional development assistance
- Paid parental leave
- Company truck and fuel card (Master Plumbers)
- Commuter bonus and mileage reimbursement
- Employee discount
