The Town of Hanover is seeking a skilled, dependable, and versatile Building Maintenance Technician to help maintain the buildings and facilities our employees, residents, and visitors rely on every day. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Maintain and repair HVAC systems
· Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems
· Unclog drains and locate and repair plumbing leaks
· Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems
· Change light bulbs and ballasts
· Perform a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing and finish work
· Hang and repair sheetrock
· Install and repair roofing
· Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces
· Purchase materials and supplies as needed
· Sweep and scrub parking garages
· Clean parking lot drains
· Perform related building and facility maintenance duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, and tools used in general building maintenance
· Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance principles
· Knowledge of general carpentry principles and practices
· Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
· Skill in reading blueprints and schematic drawings
· Skill in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools
· Skill in prioritizing and planning work
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Effective oral and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Work is performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, and stooping
· Frequent lifting of light and heavy objects
· Regular climbing of ladders
· Frequent use of tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity
· Work is performed in offices, stockrooms, warehouses, garages, and outdoor environments
· Occasional work in cold or inclement weather
· Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts
· Use of appropriate protective equipment, including masks, goggles, gloves, and other PPE as required
Minimum Qualifications
· Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with completion of high school or equivalent
· One to three years of relevant building maintenance or related experience
· Experience sufficient to understand building maintenance work, troubleshoot issues, answer questions, and resolve problems
· Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid New Hampshire driver’s license appropriate for the vehicles or equipment operated
· An HVAC degree and gas license are a plus, but are not required
