Core Responsibilities
- Component Assembly: Mount, fasten, crimp, bond, and install electronic and mechanical components onto circuit boards or into product casings.
- Soldering: Perform surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole hand soldering following industry standards like IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001.
- Reading Documentation: Interpret technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
- Wiring & Harnesses: Strip, tin, route, tie, and attach wires, cables, and connectors.
- Testing & Inspection: Conduct visual and electrical checks (using multimeters or test fixtures) to verify component placement, continuity, and functionality.
- Documentation: Record production data, maintain device history records (DHRs), and log any defects or rework.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or technical training preferred for specialized/aerospace roles).
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, soldering irons, and testing equipment.
- Physical & Manual Skills: Strong hand-eye coordination, fine motor dexterity for handling tiny components, and good color vision to distinguish color-coded wiring.
- Certifications (Optional/Advantageous): IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or NASA 8739 certifications.
