Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Machine Setup: Install cutting tools, fixtures, chucks, and workholding components. Set tool and work offsets and adjust machine parameters.
- Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and job travelers.
- Program Adjustment: Make minor edits to G-code or control programs (like Fanuc, Siemens, or Mazak) as needed.
- Quality Control: Measure first-piece and in-process parts using precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Run trial runs, watch the machine cycle, and fix tool wear or offset errors to prevent bad parts.
- Maintenance & Safety: Keep the work area clean, check coolant levels, and follow OSHA and factory safety protocols.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Technical training or a machining certificate is a plus.
- Experience: 1 to 3+ years of hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills or lathes.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of G-code, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and reading blueprints.
- Math and Measuring: Good basic math skills to calculate dimensions and tolerances, plus expert use of hand inspection tools.
