Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and developing automated mechanical equipment and purification systems using SolidWorks, while working hands-on with equipment throughout its lifecycle from concept to commissioning. You will create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, collaborate closely with manufacturing technicians and cross-functional teams, and troubleshoot both mechanical and some electrical issues to ensure reliable, high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical equipment, assemblies, frames, piping layouts, and components using SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation to support production and lifecycle management.
  • Design and modify automated process equipment and purification systems to meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
  • Improve and standardize existing equipment designs to enhance manufacturability, serviceability, and scalability.
  • Participate in new product and system development, including new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Integrate pumps, valves, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, transmitters, and other instrumentation into mechanical and automated systems.
  • Work directly with manufacturing technicians during equipment assembly, providing guidance and resolving build issues in real time.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and some electrical issues on equipment, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Work with customers, vendors, technicians, and other engineers to solve technical problems and support successful equipment deployment.
  • Build and prototype systems and equipment, applying a hands-on approach to integration and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Dig into complex technical problems, determine why issues are occurring, and drive solutions to the root cause.
  • Take ownership of projects, manage technical deliverables, and independently move work forward in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Contribute to the development of standardized or configurable equipment platforms that can be efficiently manufactured and deployed.
  • Support equipment through concept, design, fabrication, programming, testing, and commissioning, ensuring performance meets specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for mechanical design, including experience designing mechanical equipment, OEM machinery, or industrial equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Hands-on ability to build, integrate, and prototype systems, working directly with physical equipment rather than solely from a desk.
  • Strong understanding of bills of materials (BOMs) and BOM structure, including how they support manufacturing and configuration.
  • Ability to independently solve technical problems, take ownership of projects, and work effectively in an ambiguous environment.
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to learn independently and adapt to evolving technologies and requirements.
  • Comfort working with automated equipment, machinery, robots, and industrial equipment in a practical, hands-on setting.

Additional Qualifications:

  • 3–7+ years of experience designing or developing automated equipment.
  • Experience with robot and machine design, OEM equipment, and industrial machinery.
  • Experience programming or troubleshooting PLCs and understanding PLC-based control systems.
  • Understanding of industrial automation and control systems, including sensors, instrumentation, motors, valves, and related components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • PLC/HMI experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, AutomationDirect, or similar systems.
  • Experience with VFDs, analog instrumentation, digital I/O, communications, and industrial networking.
  • Experience working with automated machinery, process skids, water treatment, filtration, biotech or pharmaceutical equipment, laboratory equipment, or similar systems.
  • Experience taking equipment from concept through design, fabrication, programming, testing, and commissioning.
  • Experience working for an OEM, machine builder, or systems integrator.
  • Experience developing standardized or configurable equipment platforms for repeatable manufacturing and deployment.
  • Interest in joining a growing startup environment and contributing at the ground floor to shape products and processes.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role, with work performed at the facility every day. You will spend significant time in a hands-on environment, collaborating closely with manufacturing technicians and other engineers around automated equipment, process systems, and industrial components. The setting is dynamic and fast-paced, typical of a growing startup where you work directly with physical machinery, participate in equipment assembly and testing, and engage in factory acceptance testing (FAT). The culture emphasizes ownership, problem-solving, and the opportunity to influence equipment designs and platforms from an early stage.
