Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ED RN for a 26-week critical access hospital assignment requiring prior travel experience and multiple emergency certifications.

    \n
  • Emergency Department at a 25-bed critical access hospital with 10-14 ED bed capacity
  • \n

  • Level IV trauma center treating patients from newborn to geriatric, ages 0-100+
  • \n

  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
  • \n

  • Rotating 12-hour evening/night shifts (3:30 PM - 4:00 AM), 36 hours per week
  • \n

  • Shift options may include 7a-7p, 11a-11p, 3p-3a, and 7p-7a as needed
  • \n

  • Every other weekend required, with primarily night shifts and occasional mid shifts to cover gaps
  • \n

  • No floating required
  • \n

  • EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication system used
  • \n

  • Ancillary support includes an ED tech 24/7, unit clerk/secretary, and charge nurse on every shift
  • \n

  • One MD scheduled 24 hours with mid-level provider (PA/NP) coverage 0930-2130
  • \n

  • STEMI, stroke, and trauma patients transported to higher level of care, may require RN transport via ambulance
  • \n

  • No interventional radiology or cath lab on-site
  • \n

  • Utilizes Telemedicine and Telestroke consultations
  • \n

  • Holiday coverage required with schedule flexibility
  • \n

Requirements\n

    \n
  • Active VT or compact RN license
  • \n

  • AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
  • \n

  • Proof of TNCC class enrollment with application date accepted if certification pending
  • \n

  • NIHSS certification required prior to start
  • \n

  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • \n

  • At least 1 completed travel assignment required
  • \n

  • EPIC experience within the past 2 years required
  • \n

  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • \n

  • Reliable personal transportation required due to lack of public transit access
  • \n

Additional Information\n

    \n
  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities and age groups using ESI triage scale
  • \n

  • Perform IV insertion, drips/infusions, EKGs, restraint application, and procedural sedation
  • \n

  • Utilize special equipment including Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and Ranger blood warmers
  • \n

  • May be asked to accompany patients on ambulance transports for higher level of care
  • \n

  • Precepting new nurses may be required
  • \n

  • Experience in a critical access hospital or rural ED setting is a plus
  • \n

  • Respiratory therapy and anesthesia support availability varies
  • \n

  • Bi-weekly orientations held on Mondays
  • \n

  • No block scheduling permitted
  • \n

  • Employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
  • \n
