Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our rehabilitation team in Newburyport, MA. The PTA will work closely with licensed Physical Therapists and the interdisciplinary care team to provide high-quality physical therapy services designed to improve mobility, strength, function, independence, and overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy treatment and rehabilitation services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.

  • Implement individualized treatment plans designed to improve mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and functional independence.

  • Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, activities, transfers, gait training, and mobility techniques.

  • Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in condition or functional status to the supervising Physical Therapist and appropriate clinical staff.

  • Document treatments, patient responses, progress, and other required information accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on exercises, mobility techniques, safety precautions, and appropriate use of assistive devices.

  • Promote patient safety and follow established infection control and safety procedures.

  • Collaborate with Physical Therapists, nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Maintain a professional and supportive environment that encourages patient participation and progress.

  • Assist patients in achieving their highest possible level of independence and quality of life.

  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and facility regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Participate in care planning, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate and complete clinical documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Current and valid Massachusetts Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license.

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required as applicable.

  • Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or a healthcare setting preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic exercises, mobility techniques, and rehabilitation practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Ability to follow treatment plans and instructions provided by the supervising Physical Therapist.

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

  • Ability to safely assist patients with transfers, ambulation, and therapeutic activities.

  • Must be able to pass required background and employment checks.
