Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, Monday–Friday
Schedule: 40 Hours/Week; Potential Rotating Weekends
Weekly Gross: $1,100–$1,300 (Based on Experience)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support sterile processing operations within a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient decontamination, sterilization, preparation, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and clinical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, sort, disassemble, rinse, disinfect, and prepare instruments and clinical equipment.
- Follow proper PPE, infection-control, and safety practices.
- Assemble instrumentation using count sheets and inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and completeness.
- Properly wrap, containerize, package, label, store, and distribute sterile supplies and instruments.
- Access physician preference cards and retrieve, track, and distribute surgical supplies and equipment.
- Select appropriate sterilization methods and accurately document sterilization loads and biological testing.
- Operate sterile processing equipment, including steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris I sterilizers, cart washers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, heat sealers, and testing devices.
- Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, stocking, monitoring usage, and communicating supply-related issues.
- Serve as a resource to customers regarding sterile processing functions and procedures.
- Maintain required training, continuing education, and staff meeting requirements.
- Work independently with minimal direct supervision while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
- Provide excellent service to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer skills with strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or an equivalent Medical Terminology challenge examination.
- Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
- Anatomy & Physiology course at the high school level or higher.
- Successful completion of an Anatomy examination.
- Sterile Processing Technician certification.
- At least 3 years of recent Sterile Processing experience within the past 5 years.
- Must successfully pass the required Sterile Processing Technician certification examination.
Sterile Processing Technician I
In addition to the requirements above, candidates for the Sterile Processing Technician I level must have:
- At least 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Aide.
- Sterile Processing Technician certification.
