Senior Superintendent
Job Description
The Senior Superintendent leads all on-site construction activities and serves as the primary field representative on complex, ground-up and renovation projects in dense urban environments. This role oversees daily field operations, coordinates subcontractors and vendors, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards. The Senior Superintendent collaborates closely with project management, design teams, and stakeholders, while mentoring field staff and driving a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities and act as the primary field representative for assigned projects.
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules in coordination with the Project Management team.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure efficient and timely project execution.
- Conduct daily site inspections to monitor quality, safety, productivity, and adherence to contract documents, specifications, and drawings.
- Identify, communicate, and proactively resolve construction challenges, schedule impacts, and field conflicts.
- Enforce company safety policies and ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements.
- Facilitate and lead subcontractor meetings, safety meetings, and coordination meetings to align all parties on project goals and expectations.
- Review construction documents, specifications, and drawings to verify accurate execution of work in the field.
- Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage project logistics, including site access, material deliveries, storage, sequencing, and workforce planning.
- Oversee punch list development and completion, project turnover, and closeout activities to ensure a smooth handoff.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and other field staff, promoting a culture of learning and professional growth.
- Plan and execute construction activities in dense, occupied urban environments while minimizing impacts to surrounding businesses, residents, and public infrastructure.
- Coordinate with local municipalities and stakeholders to address site logistics, restricted access conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that work is executed to high standards of quality and craftsmanship, aligned with project specifications and client expectations.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of experience working as a Superintendent in commercial construction with progressive field leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success delivering projects within dense urban environments, including occupied neighborhoods, tight site logistics, restricted access conditions, and coordination with local municipalities and stakeholders.
- Experience managing multifamily, mixed-use, podium, and other complex ground-up projects in urban settings.
- Proven experience managing large-scale ground-up and/or complex renovation projects.
- Strong background in construction, construction management, and commercial construction.
- Ability to proactively plan and execute construction activities while minimizing impacts to surrounding businesses, residents, and public infrastructure.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and field staff.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to direct, motivate, and develop on-site teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to field challenges and schedule impacts.
- Proficiency with construction management software and scheduling tools.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on mixed-use, multifamily, and commercial projects, particularly in urban infill environments.
- background managing projects in occupied neighborhoods and dense urban areas with complex site logistics.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Ability to foster a team-oriented environment where collaboration, respect, and accountability are core values.
- Capacity to mentor and develop Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and other field staff.
- Strong organizational skills for managing project logistics, documentation, and coordination meetings.
Work Environment
This role is based on-site five days per week in the Greater Boston area. The Senior Superintendent works in active construction environments, often in dense urban infill locations with occupied surroundings, tight site logistics, and restricted access conditions. The position involves daily presence on the job site, regular interaction with subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel, and coordination with local municipalities and stakeholders. The work environment emphasizes a team-oriented culture built on collaboration, respect, and accountability, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and adherence to project schedules.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Cambridge, MA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $175000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
