Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students with diverse abilities for the 2026-2027 school year! A dedicated Life Skills/Intensive Needs special education teacher is needed to provide personalized instruction and case management at the 5th and 6th-grade level. This full-time contract role runs from ASAP through June 2027, with a weekly schedule of 35-37.5 hours, Monday through Friday.
You’ll work closely with a small, focused group—just three students this year—making a direct and meaningful impact on their learning and development. Within this supportive educational setting, you’ll partner with educators, families, and support staff to create individualized education plans (IEPs), monitor progress, and adapt teaching methods to best serve each child's needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Valid special education teaching certification (or eligibility) required
- Experience as a special education teacher, ideally with intensive needs or life skills populations
- Deep understanding of IEP development and case management
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to foster an inclusive, positive, and engaging classroom environment
- Familiarity with executive functioning, adaptive skills, and behavior strategies is highly beneficial
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a specialized caseload of 5th and 6th-grade students
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans focused on adaptive and life skills
- Track and document student progress toward IEP goals
- Coordinate and lead IEP meetings with families and related service staff
- Collaborate with general education teachers to promote inclusive practices
- Support daily living, social skills, and functional academics tailored to student abilities
