Job Title: Radiology Technologist
Job Description
This role performs routine diagnostic imaging examinations on both a scheduled and emergency basis while following established departmental quality control and data integrity workflows. The Radiology Technologist delivers safe, accurate, and patient-centered imaging services, ensuring that each examination meets clinical needs and adheres to best practices in radiation safety and high reliability.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine diagnostic radiology imaging examinations on scheduled and emergency patients in accordance with departmental protocols and quality standards.
- Review and evaluate requisitions for diagnostic imaging procedures, extracting relevant data from patient charts to confirm the appropriateness of the prescribed procedure based on diagnosis and clinical signs.
- Verify patient identity using two identifiers in accordance with hospital policy before performing any imaging procedure.
- Select appropriate imaging equipment, technical factors, and exposure parameters to accurately demonstrate both pathologic and normal anatomy.
- Assess the physical and emotional status of patients and parents or caregivers, including their ability to understand and follow instructions, and develop a care plan tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
- Explain imaging examinations clearly to patients and parents, addressing questions about the procedure and radiation exposure while consistently practicing ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
- Follow departmental quality control and exam data integrity workflow expectations to ensure accurate documentation and reliable imaging records.
- Apply High Reliability Training principles in daily practice to support a safe, consistent, and error-resistant clinical environment.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care during imaging procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, licensing, and accreditation standards related to diagnostic radiology.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of imaging experience in diagnostic radiology.
- Proficiency in performing X-ray and general radiology imaging procedures.
- Ability to interpret imaging requisitions and correlate clinical information with appropriate imaging protocols.
- Skill in selecting proper technical factors and equipment settings to produce diagnostic-quality images.
- Competence in assessing patient and family needs, including physical and emotional status, and adapting communication and care accordingly.
- Strong communication skills to explain examinations and radiation exposure in clear, understandable terms to patients and parents.
- Commitment to radiation safety and consistent application of ALARA principles.
- Ability to follow departmental quality control and data integrity workflows accurately.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems, including Epic.
- ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology (required).
- Current Massachusetts Radiographer license (required).
- Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology (required).
- Training in Diagnostic Radiology.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working in a high-reliability healthcare environment is beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate patient records and imaging documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with patients of varying ages and conditions, as well as their families or caregivers.
- Demonstrated ability to function well in both scheduled and emergency imaging situations.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing education, including tuition-supported coursework and license or certification reimbursement programs, as available.
- Interest in contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented radiology department.
Work Environment
This position is 100% on-site in a clinical healthcare setting, with schedules that may vary based on location needs. The role involves frequent use of diagnostic radiology equipment and electronic medical record systems such as Epic. Technologists work closely with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary care team in a fast-paced environment that may include both routine and emergency imaging. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
