Position Overview / Department Overview

The department plays a crucial role in managing and ensuring the availability of surgical supplies within the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Day Surgery. Key responsibilities include overseeing inventory levels, replenishing supplies, and adjusting stock levels as necessary to meet surgical requirements. The team is tasked with receiving, inspecting, and confirming orders, maintaining organized storage areas, and preparing surgical case carts for both planned and emergency procedures. Acting as a bridge between the Surgical Processing Department and clinical personnel, the department guarantees effective communication and timely delivery of instruments and materials essential for surgical operations, all while adhering to strict departmental guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the inventory of surgical supplies for the OR, PACU, and Day Surgery, ensuring availability and initiating reorders based on established par levels.
  • Inspect, verify, and document incoming orders, addressing any discrepancies or delays with supervisors or business managers as necessary.
  • Restock and organize inventory in storage areas and case carts, ensuring compliance with packaging and expiration standards.
  • Prepare and deliver surgical case carts according to surgeon preference sheets, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery for both scheduled and emergency procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between the Surgical Processing Department (SPD) and the OR, facilitating the flow of surgical supplies and communicating urgent needs.
  • Adhere to departmental policies for the transportation and restocking of sterilized surgical instruments, utilizing electronic tracking systems and responding to inquiries as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Education

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage and problem-solving, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments based on departmental needs.
  • Basic record-keeping skills, with the ability to read and write clearly.
