Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Complex Care Services
Department Overview
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) team. This esteemed service, part of the Division of General Pediatrics, specializes in caring for hospitalized children facing medical complexities, chronic conditions, and functional challenges. Typical admissions to CCS involve cases such as infections (e.g., aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), exacerbations of chronic conditions (e.g., epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and recovery from surgeries (e.g., baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion). In this role, you will conduct patient evaluations, assessments, and facilitate care for those under the CCS service, implementing tailored interventions to enhance patient care systems and safety. The CCS NP/PA will collaborate closely with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the nursing team to ensure the highest quality of clinical care. A master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies is required, with a preference for clinical experience with medically complex children.
Primary Responsibilities
• Conduct evaluations, assessments, and facilitate care for medical and surgical patients with complexities admitted to the Complex Care Service.
• Assist in implementing interventions aimed at improving care systems and enhancing patient safety.
• Collaborate with supervising physicians and the nursing/medical team to ensure optimal patient care.
• Serve as a clinical resource and promote educational opportunities for staff.
• Engage in learning, quality improvement, and/or research initiatives.
• Work 24 hours per week with a 50% day/night rotation and every third weekend; shifts are 12 hours long.
Essential Qualifications
Education
• Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
Experience
• A minimum of 1 year of pediatric NP/PA experience is preferred.
• Experience with medically complex children is preferred.
• New graduate NPs or PAs may be considered if they have 2+ years of recent pediatric inpatient RN experience or strong clinical rotations in pediatric inpatient settings.
Licensure/Certifications
• Active MA NP or PA license with PNP or FNP certification.
This position includes a sign-on bonus of $3,000 for candidates who have not been employed by our organization in the past two years.
