Assembly Lead / Production Coordinator
Temp-to-Hire Opportunity | $25.00 per Hour-$28.00 per hour
Location: Canton, Massachusetts
A large, well-established international manufacturing company with approximately $2 billion in annual revenue is seeking an experienced Assembly Lead / Production Coordinator to support its Canton-area operation.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys organizing daily production, guiding employees, improving workflow, and ensuring assembly goals are completed safely, accurately, and on time.
The position will begin as a temporary assignment with the opportunity to convert to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.

Position Summary
The Assembly Lead / Production Coordinator will coordinate daily assembly activities and provide direction to the assembly team. This individual will help manage workloads, assign tasks, monitor production output, resolve workflow issues, and improve labor utilization and productivity.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and able to balance hands-on production responsibilities with team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Production and Assembly
- Coordinate daily production and assembly schedules.
- Assign work and balance workloads across assembly team members.
- Adjust priorities based on production needs and customer demand.
- Monitor daily production output and schedule attainment.
- Identify bottlenecks, material shortages, and workflow issues.
- Ensure employees follow established assembly processes and standard work instructions.
- Coordinate with planning, warehouse, and production teams to confirm material availability.
- Help ensure production goals and deadlines are consistently achieved.
Team Leadership
- Provide daily direction and support to assembly employees.
- Lead shift-start meetings covering production priorities, safety, quality, and expectations.
- Train and cross-train team members on assembly procedures.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, productivity, and dependable attendance.
- Provide employees with ongoing feedback, coaching, and operational support.
- Communicate staffing needs and workload concerns to management.
Productivity and Continuous Improvement
- Track productivity, labor utilization, schedule attainment, and daily output.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and throughput.
- Assist with line balancing and workflow optimization.
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help reduce downtime, waste, rework, and unnecessary movement.
- Use daily performance data to recommend operational improvements.
Quality and Safety
- Ensure assembled products meet company quality standards and specifications.
- Support quality inspections, documentation, and corrective actions.
- Promote a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and operating procedures.
- Immediately report safety concerns, quality problems, or production issues.
Inventory and Materials
- Coordinate with warehouse and planning personnel to maintain material availability.
- Monitor material usage and report shortages or excess inventory.
- Help minimize waste and prevent unnecessary material loss.
- Confirm that required components are available before production begins.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of assembly, production, manufacturing, or warehouse operations experience.
- Previous experience as an assembly lead, production lead, team lead, coordinator, or shift lead is strongly preferred.
- Experience assigning work and coordinating employees in a production environment.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and production deadlines.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or productivity improvement practices is preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP, inventory, warehouse, or production tracking systems is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with assembly, warehouse, planning, quality, and management teams.
