Summary: The Robot Operator/Tender will produce finished castings daily as well as participate in and contribute to projects related to robotic cutting and grinding, process improvements, and documentation. The ideal candidate will be reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. While some on-the-job training is expected, the Robot Operator/Tender should have a solid understanding of basic mathematics, including trigonometry and algebra. Analytical thinking and open communication regarding process improvements is critical to adding value and maintaining quality of our product while maintaining safe practices. This position requires close collaboration with co-workers at all levels. The Robot Operator/Tender will tend to all requirements of the Robot, including preventative maintenance, tool calibration, and tracking of vital statistics. The use of hand tools to inspect and finish grind castings is expected.

Essential Duties and Requirements:

  • Operate the robotic cell per procedures to produce finished production castings
  • Contribute to the development of the robotic cut-off and grinding cell, including basic programming, troubleshooting, and continuous communication with the Robot Programmer and Manufacturing Engineer
  • Assist the Robot Programmer and Manufacturing Engineer in creating or updating process documentation for new and existing manufacturing processes
  • Collect manufacturing data as required
  • Set up the cell, observe operation, and inspect parts to ensure machining conforms to specifications
  • Perform routine and preventative machine maintenance
  • Maintain a neat and well-organized work area
  • Load and unload the castings and fixtures with an overhead hoist or forklift
  • Change worn tooling or exchange tooling required for specific operations
  • Use the teach pendant to manipulate the robot as required
  • Other duties as directed by Management

Basic Requirements:

  • High School or Trade School diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in robotic or CNC operation and troubleshooting
  • Experience interpreting drawing
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment
  • Casting experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in engineering-related field or equivalent work experience is a plus

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of a foundry job. The employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud.

Physical Requirements

This position will be a balance of office and shop duties. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is required to use various hand (wrenches, screwdrivers etc.) and power (rollers, grinders, etc.) tools.
