Job Title: CNC Lathe Set Up Operator

Location: Hopedale

Functional Area: Production

Status: Non-Exempt

Last Update: 03-24-2025

Reports to: Manufacturing Coordinator / Shop Foreman

Job Summary:

Able to set up and operate Mori Seiki and Okuma Howa CNC Lathes and or Star CNC Swiss Machines. Live tooling experience a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Ø Knowledge of basic CNC machining and basic machining methods.

Ø Working knowledge in the implementation of the company’s QMS. Working to procedures, flow charts, work instructions and commitment to continuous improvement.

Ø Be able to Upload/Download machine programs from file server.

Ø Gather all necessary tooling, and fixtures required for particular job from Traveler/Set Up Sheet.

Ø Set Up machine with proper chucks and or fixtures according to the Traveler/Set Up sheet. Load tooling in machine and set proper geometry offsets.

Ø Run first piece to ensure that the program matches operation in Traveler/Set Up sheet.

Ø Do basic inspection using own equipment or shop equipment before first article is presented to Quality Control.

Ø Have open communication with Quality Control.

Ø Make adjustments and fine tune operation after first article to ensure optimum machining efficiency.

Ø Brief operator on specific characteristics or in process inspections that may be required.

Ø Once procedure is running, document all necessary information.

Ø To practice proper safety procedures and good work practices.

Ø Keep immediate area and aisles clear of obstacles and to practice good housekeeping.

Ø When production job is complete set up operator is to clean and remove all tools and equipment. Remove all materials used from previous job including: gages, prints, setup sheets, products, and jaws.

Ø Starting new jobs set up operator is to check all raw materials, verify that all set up documentation is correct, conduct inspection of area.

Ø To uphold the Quality Policy of Algonquin/Hi-Tech and work towards corporate goals

Ø Ensure production cycles/efficiencies are met or exceeded

Ø Ensure the company’s QMS abides to customer, internal, ISO 9001, regulatory/legal requirements

Ø Abide by the OSHA regulations and standards.

Related Experience and Education:

Minimum of 3 years related job experience

Other Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Ø Programming a plus but not necessary

Ø Knowledge of live tooling lathes a plus

Ø Excellent communication skills (written and oral), exceptional math and organizational skills.

Ø Ensure all components meet specifications using appropriate tools for verification

Ø Possess strong communication and interpersonal skill with attention to detail

Ø Good work ethic and flexibility to work any shift a must

Ø Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadline

Ø Strong analytical background including manufacturing principles.
