Maintenance Reliability Engineer
Job Description
Job Description
Job Summary
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for the technical and systems-based maintenance functions supporting the manufacturing operations of Twin Rivers Technologies (TRT). This role serves as the maintenance technical owner for the computerized maintenance management system (eMaint), maintenance-related SAP material master and spare-parts data, rotating equipment technical records, and maintenance requirements resulting from Management of Change (MOC) activities.
The Reliability Engineer works directly with the Senior Maintenance Manager and collaborates with Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical/Instrumentation, Facilities, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Stores, and outside repair vendors to improve equipment reliability, preserve technical knowledge, strengthen maintenance data and documentation, and ensure critical equipment is supported by appropriate preventive maintenance, repair strategies, and spare parts. This is an individual-contributor role with significant technical ownership and coordination responsibility and no routine direct supervision of maintenance personnel.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Ensure safety is the top priority in all reliability and maintenance support activities through strict adherence to safe work practices, permitting requirements, and environmental standards.
- Serve as the maintenance-side administrator and technical owner of eMaint, including asset hierarchy, equipment records, naming standards, preventive maintenance (PM) records, documentation linkage, user/data governance, and overall CMMS data quality.
- Create, revise, and retire maintenance assets, PMs, and associated equipment records; routinely audit eMaint for duplicate, obsolete, incomplete, or inaccurate assets, work-order data, and PM content and coordinate corrective actions.
- Own completion of maintenance-specific Management of Change (MOC) requirements, including creation or revision of assets, PMs, spare parts, equipment documentation, maintenance procedures, and other maintenance deliverables resulting from process or equipment changes.
- Provide maintenance technical ownership within SAP for spare-parts and material-master data, including creation and revision of maintenance SKUs, technical descriptions, stocking recommendations, min/max quantities, equipment BOMs, obsolete or superseded materials, and repairable spare records in coordination with Purchasing and Stores.
- Lead the identification, specification, and optimization of critical mechanical spare parts for pumps, mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, valves, rotating equipment, and other plant assets; support E&I personnel with SAP material-master and inventory-system requirements for electrical and instrumentation spares.
- Serve as a technical resource for pumps and other rotating equipment by maintaining equipment specifications, manuals, drawings, repair history, spare-parts information, interchangeability data, and vendor/OEM technical records.
- Develop repair scopes and coordinate external pump, mechanical seal, and rotating-equipment rebuilds with qualified contractors and repair vendors; review quotations, technical findings, repair recommendations, and completed work and maintain appropriate repair documentation and history.
- Support field troubleshooting, failure analysis, and repair decisions for pumps and other mechanical equipment in collaboration with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Foreman, technicians, Engineering, and Operations; provide hands-on technical support when appropriate without assuming day-to-day supervision of maintenance personnel.
- Lead or support equipment criticality assessments, spare-parts criticality reviews, recurring-failure analysis, root cause investigations, preventive maintenance optimization, and other reliability improvement initiatives.
- Maintain and improve maintenance technical documentation, including equipment files, manuals, drawings, repair reports, vendor information, specifications, and electronic records within established document-management locations and eMaint.
- Support capital projects, equipment replacements, commissioning, and project turnover to Maintenance by ensuring new or modified equipment has appropriate asset records, PMs, spare parts, BOMs, manuals, drawings, and technical documentation prior to or following startup.
- Use eMaint and SAP data to support maintenance KPIs, backlog and reliability analysis, equipment history, spare-parts decisions, and continuous improvement; identify data-quality gaps that limit effective maintenance management and drive their correction.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with OEMs, repair shops, technical suppliers, and contractors and provide technical support for equipment and spare-parts sourcing without assuming responsibility for routine general procurement.
- Perform other duties as requested or required based on business needs.
Formal Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, reliability engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required. Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of advanced technical education and directly related experience where the candidate demonstrates the specialized knowledge and independent judgment required to perform the position's essential functions.
- Minimum of 3 years required of industrial maintenance, reliability, rotating-equipment, or maintenance engineering experience required; additional experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on maintenance or equipment troubleshooting experience sufficient to understand field work, repair practices, failure modes, and technician needs; the position is primarily a technical ownership and coordination role rather than a craft or supervisory role.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Strong working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, particularly centrifugal and positive-displacement pumps, mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, valves, piping systems, and other rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS); experience administering or governing asset hierarchies, preventive maintenance, equipment records, and maintenance data strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, datasheets, specifications, and vendor documentation required.
- Working knowledge of industrial safety requirements including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, confined space entry, line breaking, and contractor safety management required.
Core Competencies
- Strong organizational, analytical, written communication, and cross-functional coordination skills required.
- Must be capable of independently driving technical and systems-based work to completion in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a chemical manufacturing, refinery, continuous-process, food processing, power generation, or similar industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- eMaint experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of SAP or a comparable ERP/materials-management system, including maintenance material masters, spare-parts data, inventory parameters, equipment BOMs, and repairable spares preferred.
- Experience developing repair scopes, coordinating pump or rotating-equipment repairs with outside vendors, reviewing technical repair recommendations, and maintaining repair documentation preferred.
- Knowledge of reliability practices including equipment criticality, root cause analysis, preventive maintenance optimization, failure history analysis, and critical spare-parts management preferred.
Travel Requirements
Infrequently. May be required for training, vendor visits, equipment inspections, or repair-shop support.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment and Conditions
- Requires regular field work and walking throughout the manufacturing facility to inspect equipment and support troubleshooting.
- Tasks may at times be performed with exposure to all weather conditions.
- May be required to work in confined-space areas in accordance with site procedures and training requirements.
- May need to climb stairs, ladders, refining towers, and storage-tank access systems to inspect equipment.
- Requires sufficient dexterity and mobility to inspect machinery, review equipment condition, and provide hands-on technical support when appropriate.
- Occasionally lift, push, or pull equipment, tools, or components consistent with assigned duties.
- Works extensively with computers, CMMS/ERP systems, technical documentation, measuring devices, and other technical equipment.
