Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manufacturing Painter with experience applying marine-grade paints and protective coatings using HVLP spray equipment. This position is responsible for preparing manufactured components and assemblies and applying high-performance coatings in accordance with product specifications, customer requirements, and established quality standards.
The ideal candidate understands the importance of proper surface preparation, coating application, and finish quality when working with marine-grade paints and industrial coatings designed to provide long-term durability.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for coating through cleaning, sanding, scuffing, masking, and other specified preparation methods.
- Apply primers, marine-grade paints, and protective coatings using HVLP spray equipment.
- Properly mix paints, primers, reducers, hardeners, and other coating components according to manufacturer specifications and work instructions.
- Set up and adjust HVLP spray equipment, including air pressure, fluid flow, and spray pattern, to achieve the required finish.
- Apply coatings evenly and consistently to achieve specified coverage, appearance, and dry-film thickness.
- Inspect surfaces and finished coatings for runs, sags, orange peel, dry spray, fisheyes, contamination, overspray, inadequate coverage, and other defects.
- Perform sanding, touch-ups, and rework as necessary to meet quality standards.
- Properly mask surfaces, hardware, labels, fasteners, and other areas that are not to be coated.
- Maintain clean and properly functioning HVLP spray guns, hoses, regulators, and related equipment.
- Minimize paint waste through proper spray technique, equipment setup, and material handling.
- Read and follow work orders, drawings, coating specifications, safety data sheets (SDS), and manufacturer instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe painting area.
- Properly handle, store, label, and dispose of paints, solvents, and other chemicals in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
- Follow all required PPE, respiratory protection, ventilation, and hazardous-material handling procedures.
- Work closely with production and quality personnel to identify and resolve coating and finishing issues.
- Meet production schedules while maintaining consistent coating quality and workmanship.
Qualifications
Required
- 2-5 Years Experience
- Previous experience as an industrial, manufacturing, marine, or commercial painter preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using HVLP spray equipment is required.
- Experience applying marine-grade or other high-performance industrial coatings is a plus.
- Willingness to learn surface prep and light fabrication for proprietary materials.
- Understanding of paint mixing ratios, reducers, hardeners, pot life, flash times, and recoat requirements.
- Ability to produce consistent, high-quality finishes using HVLP equipment.
- Ability to recognize common coating defects and determine appropriate corrective action.
Compensation Range
Base Salary Range: $33-$35 per hour.
