Facilities Manager


Full time, year round, exempt


Reports to: Director of Finance

Start Date: As soon as possible

Working Location: Onsite

Department: Facilities

Compensation: $60,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Employees are eligible for benefits starting on the 1st of the month following the date of hire. Employees are eligible to participate in these plans as amended from time to time. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week, nights and weekend as needed


ABOUT BARRINGTON STAGE COMPANY

Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Facilities Manager to join our Facilities team in Pittsfield, MA. The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the management and maintenance of our buildings, vehicles, and grounds. Systems include (among others) mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinklers, elevators, keying, security, and solar panels. Building and grounds services include (among others) landscaping, snow plowing, custodial, elevator and occupancy inspections, routine maintenance, and patching and painting. The successful candidate will be a skilled tradesperson who can work independently across multiple locations and work types.


The position is full-time and will report directly to the Director of Finance.


Barrington Stage has a three-fold mission: to produce top-notch, compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to engage our community with vibrant, inclusive educational outreach programs. The company owns five buildings - an administrative office with rehearsal and costume shop, a larger main stage, a smaller intimate stage, a production center for producing sets and scenery, and a small residential unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee and maintain the physical operation of the BSC campus
  2. Create and oversee the careful maintenance and cleaning programs that keep BSCs appearance in exemplary condition.
  3. Create, with the Managing Director and Finance Director, an annual maintenance plan and budget.
  4. Create, with the Managing Director and Finance Director, an annual capital plan and budget.
  5. Institute and manage maintenance contracts and inspections to include: HVAC/Mechanical equipment, fire alarm systems, sprinklers, fire extinguisher inspections, elevators, security system cameras and keying, custodial contractors, general building inspections, Board of Health inspections, snow plowing/shoveling, trash collection, solar panels, etc.
  6. Respond to security system alarms and fire alarms.
  7. Maintain supplies for restrooms
  8. Support company events, setting up tables and chairs and other items as needed
  9. Oversee the work of outside building and maintenance contractors to ensure compliance with contracted agreements and budget
  10. Prepare buildings for inclement weather, including anticipating winter conditions
  11. Maintain BSCs vehicles including regular oil changes and inspections
  12. Maintain a list of all pertinent contacts (including vendors, suppliers, service companies), procedures and instructions (including operation of safety and security equipment, thermostats, other equipment.
  13. Respond to, prioritize, and complete maintenance requests, to include painting, minor repairs, small construction projects, and maintenance
  14. Maintain electrical rooms, janitor closets and storage rooms in clean and organized fashion
  15. Support regular meetings of the Facilities Committee, with reporting as requested by the committee chair
  16. Perform other duties as assigned


SKILLS

  1. The Facilities Manager will model integrity, professionalism, responsibility, and respect for all persons.
  2. Experience with maintenance of complex building systems and components
  3. Proficient in email, Microsoft Word/Excel, vendor management and reporting
  4. Previous property management experience preferred
  5. Self-motivated; good communication skills and work with community
  6. Understands the big picture and manages areas of responsibility in a manner consistent with the BSC agenda
  7. Meets deadlines, demonstrates effective use of time, and handles multiple assignments simultaneously.
  8. Understands need for growth and is receptive to constructive feedback


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Stand for up to 3 hours at a time
  2. Walk for 2 miles over the span of a regular work day
  3. Lift and carrying up to 50 pounds
  4. Walk up and down stairs approximately 5-10 times per day
  5. Drive, including a van and have a good driving record
  6. Can work in both indoor and outdoor conditions


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 3 years of experience in Facilities management, including trade skill in plumbing, electrical and/or carpentry
  2. High school diploma, with preferred additional certifications or training
  3. Non-profit work, project management and theatrical experience a plus
