Job Description

Capital Equipment Project Manager | Packaging Automation

Taunton, MA | Occasional International Travel

Lead complex capital equipment projects from concept through customer acceptance.

Harpak-ULMA is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead $500K–$3M automated packaging equipment projects across North America and Europe.

You'll own the project lifecycle from definition and engineering through equipment testing, installation and final acceptance, serving as the primary connection between our customers, engineering teams, suppliers and technical resources.

If you enjoy bringing structure to complex projects, solving technical challenges and seeing a multimillion-dollar system go from concept to successful installation, this role offers the opportunity to own that entire process.

What You'll Do

  • Manage $500K–$3M capital equipment projects from definition through installation and closure.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the project.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation and technical resources.
  • Lead project kickoffs, engineering reviews, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, resources and customer expectations.
  • Partner with technical specialists to resolve mechanical, electrical, controls and safety issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and teams across North America and Europe.
  • Identify risks early and keep projects moving toward successful customer acceptance.

What You Need

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on project management experience, ideally involving capital equipment, industrial automation, machinery or engineered systems.
  • Experience managing complex projects involving multiple technical disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Strong customer communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to manage schedules, budgets, resources and competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working with engineering and technical teams on mechanical, electrical and controls-related issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management or a related field [preferred / required based on business need].

Experience That Would Be a Plus

You don't need to check every box. We'd especially value experience with:

  • Automated packaging or processing equipment
  • Industrial automation or capital machinery
  • Food manufacturing or medical-device environments
  • European suppliers or internationally distributed project teams
  • Factory and Site Acceptance Testing
  • Multilingual or cross-cultural project environments

International Exposure Without Constant Travel

This is not a heavy-travel Field Service position. Travel is occasional and may include customer locations and supplier facilities in Spain and Italy for training, testing and project activities.

Why This Role Is Different

Own meaningful projects.
You'll manage complex equipment projects valued up to $3M rather than simply supporting one piece of a larger program.

Work directly with customers.
You'll have visibility across the entire project lifecycle and play a central role in the customer relationship.

Build international experience.
Collaborate with teams and suppliers across North America and Europe.

Stay close to the technology.
You'll work alongside engineering and technical specialists supporting sophisticated automated packaging systems.

Interested? Let's Talk.

If you have experience managing capital equipment, industrial machinery or automation projects, even if packaging hasn't been your primary industry, we'd like to hear from you.
