Job DescriptionPosition Overview / Department Overview:

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Center for Excellence in Epilepsy and Neurology. This role is dedicated to providing care for children and families dealing with epilepsy and various neurological conditions at both acute and intermediate care levels. The position entails working 36 hours per week within a 31-bed pediatric neuroscience unit, which includes a 12-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. There is also an opportunity to provide coverage for the Neuro Critical Care consult service after completing additional training.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver initial care to patients with epilepsy and neurological disorders in the inpatient neuroscience unit, which includes conducting assessments, gathering medical histories, performing physical examinations, diagnosing conditions, and providing family-centered care.
• Engage in interdisciplinary consultations for all assigned inpatients during daily rounds and manage these patients throughout the day.
• Participate in ongoing research and quality improvement projects, as well as facilitate education for patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support the admission and discharge processes, coordinate care, monitor patient progress, and provide counseling, including telephone consultations.
• Assist with the transition to home, ensuring continuity of care and offering support and education to families.
• Enhance the professional knowledge base and specialty programs through publications, presentations, and involvement in professional organizations.
• Work 36 hours per week, with 12-hour shifts, rotating weekdays from Monday to Friday, and a rotating requirement for weekends and holidays (approximately every third weekend).

Essential Qualifications Education:

• A Master of Science in Nursing or a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.

Experience:

• At least 2 years of acute care experience as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant is required.
• Prior experience in neuroscience and pediatric clinical settings is highly preferred.
• Strong critical thinking and communication skills are essential.

Licensure / Certifications:

• A valid Nurse Practitioner (PNP or FNP) or Physician Assistant license in Massachusetts.
• Certification in the specialty area is expected within three years.
