Dimensional Inspection Specialist (CMM/GD&T)
Job Description
Job DescriptionDimensional Inspection Specialist (CMM/GD&T)
Step into a role where your precision keeps production on track. From first article to final release, you’ll turn complex drawings into clear go/no-go decisions, using advanced metrology tools and your command of GD&T to ensure every component matches spec.
A Day in the Life
You begin by selecting the right measurement strategy for the day’s parts—maybe a Mitutoyo CMM program for a tight-tolerance feature set, plus handheld verification with micrometers, calipers, pins, and gauges. You review drawings and job documentation, confirm customer requirements, and then run incoming, in‑process, and final inspections. As you go, you capture results, flag any nonconformances, and collaborate with machinists, engineers, and leadership to resolve issues swiftly. You wrap up by packaging customer documentation, updating records, and planning continuous improvement and 5S actions for tomorrow.
What You’ll Tackle
- Perform inspections on incoming materials, in‑process work, and finished goods to verify conformance to defined specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings, symbols, and job packets to ensure all customer and quality requirements are met.
- Use precision instruments—including CMMs, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and pins—to validate dimensions, tolerances, and other attributes.
- Identify, document, and communicate nonconformances to defined specifications.
- Partner with production, engineering, and management to resolve quality issues quickly.
- Create and maintain accurate inspection, testing, and compliance records.
- Assemble customer documentation packages.
- Record supplier quality issues and communicate directly with suppliers regarding inspection results, returns, and corrective actions.
- Champion 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate constructively to foster a positive, productive work environment.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Assist with audits and other quality department duties as needed.
Decision Scope & Authority

- Solid basic math skills and calculator proficiency.
