The role involves conducting intricate diagnostic assessments based on referrals, adhering to both departmental and professional standards. It is essential to confirm the validity of referrals, reaching out to the referring provider when necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing patient medical histories and selecting, administering, and interpreting both standardized and non-standardized tests to evaluate patients' functional capabilities in areas such as cardiopulmonary, developmental, musculoskeletal, neurological, and sensorimotor functions.
• Utilizing clinical knowledge to inform decisions and recommendations.
• Creating and executing personalized treatment plans for patients.
• Setting treatment objectives and applying suitable physical therapy techniques and modalities.
• Formulating discharge plans and home care programs.
• Educating patients and their families about treatment processes.
• Monitoring treatment results, adjusting programs as necessary, and communicating findings to physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Recommending orthotics, adaptive equipment, and technology for patients, particularly those with complex or multiple conditions.
• Collaborating with equipment designers and vendors to address patient needs and specifications.
• Training patients, families, and caregivers on the use of prescribed orthotics and equipment, while assessing effectiveness and making necessary adjustments.
• Documenting assessments, diagnoses, and treatments in patient medical records in line with established standards.
• Preparing reports, correspondence, referrals, and other documentation for schools, providers, and payors as required.
• Assigning billing codes and charges necessary for reimbursement.
• Communicating patient care assignments and scheduling requirements to support operational planning.
• Engaging in self-directed professional development through participation in organizations, continuing education, peer reviews, and other resources.
• Sharing insights gained from professional growth with the department.
• Participating in team meetings, patient care rounds, and interdisciplinary discussions, providing physical therapy consultations as needed.
• Representing the service in committees, meetings, and educational programs within the organization.
• Contributing to the advancement of the profession through research, teaching, or advocacy efforts.
• Serving as a resource in general pediatrics.
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives within the unit and department.
• Collecting and organizing data to assist in formulating recommendations aimed at enhancing service efficiency and quality.
• Delegating physical therapy treatments and direct patient care tasks to support staff, providing direction and supervision to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Acting as a clinical instructor in the departmental student externship program upon meeting eligibility criteria, planning learning objectives, and arranging relevant clinical experiences.
• Monitoring student performance, offering guidance and feedback, and conducting evaluations.
• Participating in departmental training and staff development initiatives.
