Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and coordination for commercial and institutional building projects. The role focuses on delivering robust, code-compliant electrical systems, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, cost-effective execution. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in lighting and power systems, fault-current/short-circuit analysis, voltage considerations, and be proficient with Revit and COMcheck for design documentation and compliance verification.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design for commercial and institutional building projects, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, and emergency systems.
- Develop and review electrical drawings, specifications, and calculations using Revit and other engineering tools to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Perform short-circuit, coordination, and voltage-drop studies; size feeders, transformers, switchgear, and protective devices to meet project requirements and code.
- Coordinate electrical design with architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve conflicts and integrate systems seamlessly.
- Prepare and review lighting layouts and controls, energy compliance documentation (e.g., COMcheck), and lighting calculations to meet energy codes and client requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers and designers, conducting design reviews and quality checks.
- Participate in project meetings, design coordination sessions, and construction administration, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (NEC, local codes), and stay current with industry developments and technologies.
- Support proposals, scope development, cost estimating, and project scheduling as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field; Masters degree or PE license preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional electrical engineering experience, with demonstrated experience on commercial or institutional building projects.
- Proficiency with Revit (BIM) for electrical modeling and producing coordinated construction documents.
- Strong technical experience in short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination, and voltage-drop calculations.
- Hands-on experience with lighting design, lighting controls, and energy compliance tools such as COMcheck.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), local codes, and relevant standards.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills, with experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and with contractors.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with electrical design software and tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar) is a plus.
