Loss Control Consultant or Senior Loss Control Consultant (Hybrid, field employee)

The Vermont League of Cities and Towns (VLCT) has an immediate need for a Loss Control Consultant or Senior Loss Control Consultant, depending on experience and training. This position within the Field Risk Services Department is responsible for providing occupational safety and loss control services directly to municipalities in southern Vermont. Work will be performed in the field visiting member municipalities up to 4 days per week, work is also performed remotely from a home office, and occasionally at the VLCT office in Montpelier. Must hold a valid driver’s license and a safe driving history. Must have a reliable high speed internet connection. This role will cover the southern Vermont region (Counties of Bennington, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor), and due to the field travel of this position, VLCT strongly prefers candidates who live in that region or in close neighboring areas of Vermont or adjacent states.

Education and experience requirements: A bachelor’s degree in public administration, risk management, engineering, occupational safety & health, or related field, or equivalent education or job experience. A minimum of one year of loss control, safety or risk management experience for the Loss Control Consultant position and a minimum of five years of experience for the Senior Consultant role. Knowledge of property, casualty and workers’ compensation insurance and risk management techniques is preferred. Safety or risk management certification or courses, including OSHA 10, OSHA 30, CSP, GSP, CIH, or other occupational safety credentials and a commitment to continuing education in the field.

Skills and abilities: Demonstrated customer service skills in working with member representatives up and down the organization, performing work with the utmost professionalism, polished written communication, experience creating and delivering training for large and small audiences. Proven ability to discretely manage sensitive, non-public information. Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical requirements: The ability to lift 40 pounds regularly. The ability to respond quickly to sounds. The ability to move safely over uneven terrain. The ability to climb stairs and ladders. The ability to traverse uneven surfaces. The ability to make visual inspections, both close and at a distance. The ability to see and remove oneself from dangerous situations. Salary commensurate with experience. Hiring salary range is $60,000-75,000 at the Consultant level and $70,000-87,000 at the Senior Consultant level. VLCT offers an excellent total compensation package, including:

Loss Control Consultant Job Description

Nature and Scope of Position

A professional position providing loss prevention/control and occupational safety services to member municipalities for VLCT Property and Casualty Intermunicipal Fund, Inc. (PACIF), a statewide property, casualty and workers' compensation self-insurance fund. Duties are predominantly performed in the field, providing on-site loss prevention consultation services for PACIF members. The individual works in a highly independent manner, with minimal supervision and is responsible for providing member municipalities with loss control, hazard remediation, occupational safety and related services that reduce the potential for future loss. Position reports to the Director, Field Risk Services or equivalent.
