Job Description

The Machinist I is responsible for the repairing or rebuilding of tools and die components using manual machine shop equipment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Set-up and operate manual machines such as lathes, drill presses, saws & grinders.
  • Keep the machines and tools in good working condition.
  • Sharpen knives & scissors.
  • Service steel rule dies, i.e. sharpening blades, replacing punches etc.
  • Perform basic mold repairs, i.e. repair mold marks, update date codes, make/change poppets, make simple tools etc.
  • Capable of reading blueprints and other tool design documentation.
  • Fabricate/modify basic tooling and components.
  • Make recommendations to supervisors to improve the process flow.
  • Perform basic inspections.
  • Use various hand & power tools.
  • Keep work area clean and organized, storing tools, parts, paperwork etc. in their proper locations.
  • Comply with corporate and site policies and procedures.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Trade school or work experience preferred.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must read, write and speak English.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, etc.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Work individually to support team and department success.
  • Strong organization skills with ability to multitask.
  • Lift, pull or push up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexible work hours, available to and capable of working overtime.
  • Work around chemicals, complying with appropriate SDS (e.g., alcohol, acids and bases).

Safety:

  • Must report any safety concerns to your supervisor.
  • Must report any hygiene concerns to your supervisor.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, including but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, earplugs, and safety shoes.
  • Recommends safety improvements to supervisors or committee members.
  • Understands all safety policies and procedures.
