Instructors will be part of our growing junior sailing program and teach sailing lessons Monday through Friday from 6/21/25-8/17/25, as well as three Sunday mornings to support the CYC's Family Sailing program. As a CYC Junior Sailing Instructor, you will:

With the backing of the Swimm with Timm swim lesson program, the program has rapidly expanded the Academy since it was initiated in 2020 to approximately 70 members, while the Junior Academy has stayed a consistent 30 swimmers throughout the season. We are separate, yet associated with the Danvers Community YMCA so we have the advantage of also getting to swim the season as a YMCA team and go to YMCA Championship meets as well as USA Swimming events.
About YOU: Our employees have the opportunity to be trained anywhere from a swim instructor to a swim coach. You love being in the water and educating kids of all ages! Instructors should have a minimum of two years’ group childcare, teaching, or coaching experience and be willing to obtain CPR, first aid, and lifesaving certifications within the first six months of employment.

Required Qualifications

Work Environment
The Swim Instructor must remain indoors at a facility pool with water and air temperatures of 75 degrees or higher at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemicals and fumes.
 
Physical Demands
Walks, runs, sits, stands, bends, lifts, swims and moves continually during working hours; is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. Must remain alert and able to recognize distress signals.

Swim Instructors should have experience teaching swim lessons and enjoy working with people, especially children as many lesson opportunities are with children.&nbsp; &nbsp;*Must have active Lifeguard Certifications. (ex. YMCA, Red Cross)&nbsp; Key Responsibilities&nbsp;ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

<li>Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations.</li>
<li>Report on the deck 15 minutes before the scheduled shift dressed in a bathing suit.</li>
<li>Have equipment ready before your class and store it promptly after your class. Make good use of available equipment, pool space, and personal resources.</li>
<li>All instructors must start and end classes on time.</li>
<li>Agree to teach for an entire session.&nbsp; Absenteeism MUST be kept to a minimum.</li>
<li>Communicate child’s progress with parents on an ongoing basis, not just when handing out progress reports.</li>
<li>Adhere to all pool rules and policies. Begin the first class with a reminder of the rules, bathrooms, etc.</li>
<li>Know and implement any and all emergency procedures.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate attendance for each class as well as updated skill completions using all required forms.&nbsp; Any student missing 3 classes should be reported to the Aquatic Director.</li>
<li>Take notes as need on the strengths and weaknesses of each child in the class.</li>
<li>Maintain control and safety of the class. Keep a watchful eye on everyone in the class. All children in flotation should always be within arm’s reach, and never turn your back on a class.</li>
<li>Exercise good judgment, competence in meeting the goals, objectives, needs and interest of the YMCA, the class as a whole and the individual student.</li>
<li>Incorporate all five-program components into each lesson: personal safety, water orientation/stroke development, water sports and games, rescue and personal growth.</li>

<li>Participate in all branch safety and quality drills</li>
<li>Attend all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings</li>
