Current areas of interest include physics-based modeling and numerical simulation of thermofluid and mechatronic systems, control system design and development, nonlinear state estimation, and applications of machine learning. Successful candidates will be expected to perform original, relevant research in the areas of nonlinear state estimation and system inversion for complex multiphysical systems.
The Multiphysical Systems Group at MERL conducts fundamental, academically-oriented research in model-based design and analysis of complex multiphysical systems, emphasizing thermofluid, electrical power, and mechatronic applications. Using state-of-the-art languages, we construct system-level dynamic models and use them to design new estimation and control algorithms, analyze dynamic behaviors, optimize product performance, and prototype new products and services that are enabled by these tools and methods. Current research interests include data-driven optimization and estimation for large-scale, nonlinear system models, development of next-generation tools for scientific computing, and design and analysis of robust nonlinear control and model predictive control. Specific areas of interest include state and parameter estimation for physics-based models comprised of hybrid (discrete and continuous state) nonlinear differential algebraic equations, particle filtering and ensemble estimation methods, variational methods for data assimilation and model inversion, and other cutting-edge estimation technologies. Job Description 
Independently performs routine and non-routine testing. Performs laboratory testing within a GMP environment in support of one or more of the following areas; raw materials, in-process product, final Bulk product, stability, and/or validation. Analyzes test data, evaluates results and forms conclusions with minimal outside input. Is able to recognize laboratory technique or instrumental events that could impact the integrity of the test data. Recognizes and resolves simple to moderately complex technical problems. Writes procedures with minimal guidance. Works under the general guidance of a supervisor but can effectively manage their own time to ensure timely completion of assigned duties. Trends data to support assay performance. Effectively writes all types of exception reports.
Responsibilities

<li>Performs more complex test methods as written to support product/material release with minimal error.</li>
<li>Understands laboratory techniques and principles performed.</li>
<li>Interprets experimental data for conformance with product/material specifications.</li>
<li>Understands, implements and maintains GMP with respect to laboratory records, procedures, and systems in accordance with procedural requirements.</li>
<li>Assists with writing and performs validation assays per approved protocols.</li>
<li>Can effectively perform a multitude of laboratory techniques for which they are trained on with minimal error.</li>
<li>Make recommendations for process improvement.</li>
<li>Writes/revises procedures as necessary and provides support for department.</li>
<li>Develops and maintains trend reports, backlog report, and document error reports which support departmental performance.</li>
<li>Authors all types of Investigations and deviations effectively. Assist in troubleshooting assays.</li>

Qualifications

<li>BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Technology, Biology or equivalent science degree.</li>
<li>5-8 years of related work experience</li>
<li>Maintains their certifications as needed for assigned job tasks.</li>
