Job Description 
We are seeking an accomplished Principal Scientist I to lead innovative peptide therapeutic programs in AbbVie’s Immunology Discovery organization in our Immuno-Pharmacology and Peptide Discovery department. The candidate will provide scientific and people leadership for peptide projects spanning early-stage discovery efforts as well as IND-enabling development programs. In addition, this role will spearhead platform initiatives to advance AbbVie’s peptide capabilities across immunology, ensuring that cutting-edge peptide technologies are leveraged to address critical needs in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Qualifications

Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>PhD (with 10+ years’ experience) in scientific discipline (e.g., Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or related field) with previous laboratory experience.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of peptide and/or oligonucleotide characterization, including higher order structure, chiral identification, and comparability assessments by mass spectrometry and other biophysical techniques (e.g. optical spectroscopy, structure, and binding).&nbsp; Experience in biomolecule analysis and interpretation by NMR spectroscopy a plus.</li>
<li>Practical experience and strong knowledge of LC separations (e.g., IP-RP LC, SEC), capillary electrophoresis, and other separation techniques as applied to peptide/oligonucleotide analysis.</li>
<li>Must possess demonstrated experience in peptide/oligonucleotide chemistry and biochemistry, particularly in the high order characterization activities &nbsp;related to drug development process and formulation characterization.</li>
<li>Experiences with the project leadership in the development of peptides and traditional small molecule modalities.</li>
<li>Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved product release.</li>
<li>High-quality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.</li>

We are looking for a self-motivated and intellectually curious Scientist/Senior Scientist to join our Biology/in vitro pharmacology group. The role will support pre-clinical efforts to characterize mechanism-of-action of therapeutics aimed at treating antibody-driven diseases. The ideal candidate is skilled lab-based in vitro biologist with a strong background in immunology and/or biologics drug discovery who can drive forward projects that serve multiple programs. 
 
Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Help drive multiple autoimmune programs to Development Candidate and IND</li>
<li>Design and execute in vitro experiments to support preclinical drug discovery including disease modeling, and mechanism-of-action studies to deeply characterize our molecules.</li>
<li>Collaborate with internal groups and lead study design for external CRO-based work, including biochemical analyses and in vivo studies</li>
<li>Independently develop and execute quantitative assays (ELISAs, cell proliferation assays, etc.) to support molecule progression to DC and IND.</li>
<li>Managing inventory and testing of patient samples that support multiple pre-clinical programs</li>
<li>Interpret, summarize and present research findings in internal scientific meetings as part of our collaborative learning culture.</li>
<li>Proactively review literature to bring newest scientific findings, ideas and technologies for discovery research</li>
</ul>
Requirements:
<ul>
<li>PhD in with 0-3 years, a Masters with 6+ years, or a Bachelors with 8+ years of post-graduate academic or industry experience in relevant scientific fields such as immunology, cell/molecular biology or signal transduction</li>
<li>Experience culturing and assaying human and mouse immune cells and cell lines using standard cell biology and molecular techniques (flow cytometry, ELISAs, Western Blot, PCR) is required.</li>
<li>Experience culturing primary human B cells is a plus, as is experience designing viral vectors to express antigen receptors (particularly BCRs) and characterizing downstream signaling. </li>
<li>Ability to work within a dynamic, matrixed environment.</li>
<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.</li>
